With 17 surface mount electrolytic capacitors that need replacing, you’ve really gotta love your Mac LC II if you want to keep it going. But what’s not to love? The underpowered 16MHz 68030 CPU, the 10MB RAM limitation?
Seriously though, I have a real soft spot for these old “pizza box” Macs, so of course I want to keep it going. The logic board image at the bottom of the page has a PLCC socket added so that a 68882 FPU can be installed. Even though the LC II was built so that an FPU could be used, Apple decided not to install a socket to save costs. By this stage they were releasing lots of Macs in different price brackets, and the LC II was definitely the bottom of the range.
Be careful around the audio sockets, as they are plastic and melt easily.
